Analog/Mixed-Signal circuits for mobile applications are driven primarily by challenging performance, power and area metrics. Moreover, designing on technology nodes optimized primarily for digital and memory performance, such as the 7nm FinFET technology, is a significant challenge. On these nodes, many analog circuits become more cumbersome to design with worse parasitic resistance and capacitance, stronger layout-dependent effects, complex voltage domain requirements and in many cases increased area requirements. We will give an overview of the key design constraints in 7nm and beyond and how we as a design team are attempting to address some of these Analog/Mixed-signal design challenges throughout the design flow.


Dr. Keith O'Donoghue is a Principal Engineer and Manager of the Mixed-Signal IP design team for mobile SoCs at Qualcomm Inc., Cork, Ireland. He received the B.Eng. and M.Eng.Sc. degrees in Microelectronic Engineering from University College Cork in 2004 and 2005 respectively and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California at Davis in 2009 in the area of switched-capacitor sigma-delta ADCs. From 2009 to 2018 he worked as a Staff IC Design Engineer on various low-power mixed-signal products for both Cypress Semiconductor and Analog Devices. He has 6 granted U.S. patents and is a Visiting Lecturer at University College Cork, Ireland where he is currently teaching a graduate level course in Data Converter IC Design.

The Micro-Electronics Systems and Technology Association (MEST) is organizing an industry visit to IMEC in Leuven! All students and employees within Micro-electronics, Quantum Engineering and Computer Science are invited!

Mini symposium May 4th 2017

MEST will organize a mini-symposium on May 4th at 16.00h in lecture hall Chip, EWI, TUDelft.
We will have speakers from Mapper and a young TUDelft startup company called BIOND. After the program, there will be a borrel until 19.00h.
